Thu, Sep 4 - Hurricane Lorena making landfall tomorrow - getting rain from it today

Yesterday was hot, following the pattern of the last few days. It was, however, a little more cloudy so it didn't get as hot as it could have been. Hurricane Lorena is expected to make landfall in Baja California tomorrow evening. This hurricane has already been feeding the Southwest U.S. with large amounts of Pacific water. This moist air is gradually moving to the North, bringing rain into our area. We are expecting rain in Southern Utah this morning, reaching the Sanpete Valley this afternoon. We will have good chances of rain and thunderstorms today, Friday, and Saturday. The storm will gradually clear, making way for another warm and sunny beginning to next week, though not as warm as it has been. High temperatures for the next week will be around 80*F.  Day Low (*F) High (*F) Precipitation Yesterday 51.6 90.6 0.00 Today 52.6 83 40% Tomorrow 51 83 30% For current conditions, visit the Snow College Weather Center . Thu, Aug 28 - Starting to dry out

With another 0.12" of rain falling yesterday, that brings our total rain for the last week to 0.64"! With all the humid and chilly air, a heavy fog formed over the bottom of the Sanpete valley this morning, but should clear out quickly. The pattern of rain is now tapering off. There is a chance for a little more rain this afternoon, but we will dry out through the weekend. Temperatures have definitely made it feel like falltime. However, this is just a temporary thing as the temperatures will rise again into the mid- to high-80's over the weekend as we dry out. There is a low pressure forming off the west coast. Previously, it looked like it would bring more humid air into our area next week. The most recent forecasts show the low pressure system forming further to the north, thus leaving us unaffected. Although we will still get some humid air and potential for rain from the Southwest Monsoon, the chances of rain next week have dropped significantly. Day Low (*F) H...

Wed, Aug 27 - Most rain this year!

Yesterday we had our rainiest day of the year! We had a handful of days in the spring where we recorded around 0.30" of rain. Yesterday we had 0.38"!  There was even more rain up on the Skyline Ridge. One station shows 0.50" of rain just yesterday, which follows a day of 0.20" the day before. Including precipitation from this morning, that station has received over 3/4"! Looking at the total amount of rain from June 1 to August 21, we had 0.41". Since August 22, we  have recorded 0.52", more than doubling the total precipitation for the summer. The total is still much smaller than in other years, but we are now back into the normal range of precipitation instead of being an anomaly. More rain is coming, too. The peak of this system passed us yesterday, but we still have chances of rain today and tomorrow, tapering off into the weekend for a couple of sunny days. But we have more rain coming as a low pressure system forms over the west coast, bringing ...

Tue, Aug 26 - Just in the middle of this rainstorm

We still have moist air moving up from the South. As a result, we have had a few rainy days and have more to come. So far this week, we have had 0.24" of rain, and we are expecting more in the next few days. Today has the highest potential for the most rain with a possibility of about 1/3" this afternoon. Rain will continue for the rest of the week, tapering off to a quieter weekend. However, we are still looking at a few days of potential rain into next week as well as we have a low pressure system forming off the west coast, feeding more humid air into our area.
