Temperatures have been cool over the last couple of days. The winter system that hit us a couple of days ago has moved to the East. Lingering clouds will hang around today, however, with slight chances of snow flurries throughout the day. A low pressure is forming over the west coast, drawing humid air into our region. We can expect clouds and slight chances of precipitation through the weekend, primarily Sunday afternoon. Skies will remain cloudy after that for a couple days until yet another storm system arrives on Tuesday. Yesterday's High This morning's Low 47.5*F 18.0*F We have had a high-pressure system sitting over us for about a week, causing clear skies and warming temperatures throughout the week. As a result, inversions have taken hold across the state. This is very noticeable in other valleys around the state as pollution buildup has been pretty severe. Here in San Pete Valley, we have not had to deal with it as much, but we have had an inversion here as well, it's just not as noticeable because of the lighter traffic here. This weekend, the high-pressure system will be weakened and will allow a mass of cold, humid air to come into our region. As a result, we are looking at some rain on Sunday turning into snow, Sunday evening and Monday. Tuesday, this will clear out and return back to clear skies, but without the high-pressure system. We will have clear skies and cold temperatures for the rest of next week.
We have cold weather coming from the North which is continuing to dominate our area. Yesterday on campus, we had a high temperature of 21*F. We saw flurries of snow on campus yesterday, but there no significant accumulation and no measurable water. Overnight, a humid air mass moved into the area which raised the dew point and allowed snow to form, but again with no measurable accumulation. The temperature at Snow College dropped to 11*F this morning. The cold will continue for the next few days, so we are looking at high temperatures in the mid-20's for the next couple of days and lows around 10*F. However, the Pacific High will start moving onto the coast, raising the temperature to the mid-30's on Friday before the next system moves in over the later part of the weekend.
