Thu, Aug 28 - Starting to dry out

With another 0.12" of rain falling yesterday, that brings our total rain for the last week to 0.64"! With all the humid and chilly air, a heavy fog formed over the bottom of the Sanpete valley this morning, but should clear out quickly. The pattern of rain is now tapering off. There is a chance for a little more rain this afternoon, but we will dry out through the weekend. Temperatures have definitely made it feel like falltime. However, this is just a temporary thing as the temperatures will rise again into the mid- to high-80's over the weekend as we dry out. There is a low pressure forming off the west coast. Previously, it looked like it would bring more humid air into our area next week. The most recent forecasts show the low pressure system forming further to the north, thus leaving us unaffected. Although we will still get some humid air and potential for rain from the Southwest Monsoon, the chances of rain next week have dropped significantly. Day Low (*F) H...

Wed, Aug 27 - Most rain this year!

Yesterday we had our rainiest day of the year! We had a handful of days in the spring where we recorded around 0.30" of rain. Yesterday we had 0.38"!  There was even more rain up on the Skyline Ridge. One station shows 0.50" of rain just yesterday, which follows a day of 0.20" the day before. Including precipitation from this morning, that station has received over 3/4"! Looking at the total amount of rain from June 1 to August 21, we had 0.41". Since August 22, we  have recorded 0.52", more than doubling the total precipitation for the summer. The total is still much smaller than in other years, but we are now back into the normal range of precipitation instead of being an anomaly. More rain is coming, too. The peak of this system passed us yesterday, but we still have chances of rain today and tomorrow, tapering off into the weekend for a couple of sunny days. But we have more rain coming as a low pressure system forms over the west coast, bringing ...

Tue, Aug 26 - Just in the middle of this rainstorm

We still have moist air moving up from the South. As a result, we have had a few rainy days and have more to come. So far this week, we have had 0.24" of rain, and we are expecting more in the next few days. Today has the highest potential for the most rain with a possibility of about 1/3" this afternoon. Rain will continue for the rest of the week, tapering off to a quieter weekend. However, we are still looking at a few days of potential rain into next week as well as we have a low pressure system forming off the west coast, feeding more humid air into our area. Mon, Aug 25 - Rain has started

We got rain this weekend, and it's just the start. We have a week of rain ahead of us. On Sunday,  * High temperatures dropping * Peak of rain on Tuesday For current conditions, visit the Snow College Weather Center .

Fri, Aug 22 -

We had some rain in the mountains yesterday with many stations recording over 0.10". We also got a trace of rain in Ephraim around 5pm. It was not enough to record any precipitation at the Snow College campus, however. This is just the beginning of the rain. With humid air coming from the South, we will have lots of chances for rain over the coming week. Thu, Aug 21 - Another hot one; Cool weather coming.

Yesterday we reached a high of 98.5*F on campus. My station at Manti High school reached 100.9*F. This ties the 2nd hottest day this summer. As we approached the peak temperature in the afternoon, clouds moved in. Clouds are great insulators, so they helped the high temperatures to linger for most of the afternoon. The high pressure system that has been sitting over us for weeks is weakening and moving off. As a result, temperatures will start dropping over the weekend and humid air will move into the area, bringing chances for precipitation at least through the middle of next week. High temperatures over the weekend will be in the mid-80's, and the current forecast for next Wednesday is down into the 70's! Wed, Aug 20 - Hot; Rain coming

Skies have been very clear the last few days. This is due to a high pressure system that is still sitting over us. As a result, temperatures have been more extreme - high 90's in the afternoon, around 50 in the morning. The high pressure is weakening, however. As the weekend approaches, the high pressure system will weaken and move away, allowing humid air from the southwest monsoon into the area. As a result, chances for rain starts increasing tomorrow until we have good chances over the weekend and into next week. Mon, Aug 18 - We had Rain!!

We had rain this weekend! On Saturday, a thunderstorm formed and made its way down the valley. Rainfall amounts were substantial with 0.25" of rain on campus! Other parts of the valley had more (0.31" in Spring City, 0.54" at a different site in Ephraim, and about 0.5" up Thistle Canyon). The Skyline also had about 0.25" of rain. Looking forward, we may not see as much rain for a few days. A High Pressure system we have been watching was parked over Colorado, bringing humid air from the South. However, this High Pressure system has moved to the West and is now sitting over Central and Eastern Utah. As a result, much of Utah will actually experience very high temperatures for the next couple of days. This system will weaken as the week progresses, however. More of the Southwest Monsoon will extend Northward and reach our area later this week, bringing more rain in the later parts of the week and into the weekend. Day Low (*F) High (*F) Precipitation ...

Fri, Aug 15 - Increased Cloud Cover - Rain today?

Yesterday was partly cloudy for most of the day, so we didn't get as hot as we did the day before. The clouds are a result of humid air coming from the South. The cloud cover has increased a lot overnight, giving us an even higher low temperature than yesterday. The increased cloud cover brings up the chances for rain today. The National Weather Service predicts a 50% chance that we have rain today and a 60% chance tomorrow. The rain will likely be accompanied with lightning and thunder. Unfortunately, the wind from the South will bring smoke from the Monroe Canyon fire in addition to the humidity. Smoke tends to interfere with the development of thunderstorms, so the rain will likely be limited to today and tomorrow. There will, however, be intermittent chances of rain for the next week.
